SLP "Loud Mouth" catback exhaust systemThe "Loud Mouth" catback exhaust system from SLP (Street Legal Performance) in my humble opinion is the most agressive sounding catback exhaust available for the LS1, and guess what? It's also one of the cheapest systems. It took three weeks for me to get mine in from SLP but the wait was deffinately worth it! A good friend of mine and fellow f-body owner helped me do the install. They own a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Firehawk Formula developed by SLP and happens to have the same exhaust, which is why I had him help me do the install. For more information visit the SLP website @ www.slponline.com Cost: $340.00 Shipped: $380.00
The "Loud Mouth" came as a relatively simple design which basically eliminates any use of a muffler argueably giving the car nearly unrestricted flow out from the headers. The "resonator" portion of the system is nothing more then a roughly 4.5" section that is completely hollow containing no baffles
The current factory exhaust featured my old set of RK Sport polished stainless steal exhaust tips (shown in the picture above) which had to come off because they were too small in diameter to fit the "Loud Mouth" setup.
The original factory setup shows a 3" in diameter pipe running from the muffler straight up into the Y-pipe. This setup is the first point of removal where the Y-pipe and 3" pipe are disconnected and the new "Loud Mouth" section featuring the "resonator" will be used.
You'll notice where the factory pipe flows with the belly of the Z and connects to the large muffler along the right hand side of the image. The "Loud Mouth" does the same but meets an adjacent running pipe where the exiting pipes are connected bypassing any use of a muffler. In both cases the pipe runs over the rear axle. The setup is a relatively simple one.
Pictured here is the Y-pipe and factory pipe seperated which is required prior to cutting in order to pull the factory assembly out from under the car successfully.
You'll notice the "resonator" as part of the "Loud Mouth" system positioned vertically around the center section of the Z's belly. This is the heart of the system which produces the sweet sound SLP's system is known for. This larger section of the pipe is completely hollow, containing no baffles thusly resulting in little to no restriction.
I decided on the 3" dual/dual polished tips setup for the Z. I think it looks better then the 3.5" single/single slash cut polished tips setup. These really look nice with the trim package which is good thing because it was a pain to get them looking right with it. But i nthe end, I am very pleased with the results from all the adjusting that had to be done.
